💼 What is TDIU?

TDIU (Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability) lets you receive 100% VA compensation even if your combined rating is lower — as long as your service-connected conditions prevent you from holding substantially gainful employment.

There are two paths to qualify: one disability rated 60% or higher, or two or more disabilities with one rated 40%+ and a combined rating of 70% or higher. This is known as the ‘70/40 rule.’

Your income must stay below the federal poverty level to maintain TDIU. Some limited or ‘marginal’ work is allowed without losing benefits — but the rules are strict.
